My SEA-Teacher journey in Vietnam has been an incredible experience, filled with challenges, triumphs, and invaluable lessons. I've had the opportunity to teach at the Future School in Cao Lahn City, a vibrant and bustling school just a short ride from Dong Thap University.
Future School, also known as Trường Tương Lai, is a private educational institution situated in Cao Lanh City, Dong Thap Province, Vietnam. Its name, “Future School,” reflects its dedication to nurturing forward-thinking students. The school strives to cultivate a well-rounded generation, maximizing each student’s abilities and passions. General Information and Academic Administration
The school I had the pleasure of teaching at is a well- established institution situated in a vibrant urban area of Vietnam. It serves student population situated in a academic excellence and character development. The administration actively supports teachers and students through a strong academic support system, which includes tutoring programs and professional development workshops. This collaborative environment fosters a culture of learning, where teachers are encouraged to employ interactive and student-centered teaching methods that cater to varied learning styles.
Pedagogical Contents
In my observations, I found that the pedagogical approach in the classrooms was both dynamic and engaging. Teachers employed a blend of traditional and innovative teaching methods, emphasizing collaborative learning and critical thinking. They utilized a wide range of learning materials, from textbooks to multimedia resources, enhancing students' understanding of complex topics.Technology played a crucial role, with digital platforms facilitating access to information and assignments. Furthermore, authentic assessment strategies, such as presentations and project-based learning, allowed students to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts, reinforcing the importance of practical application in education.
Teaching Plan Insights
During my recent practice teaching in Vietnam, I followed a curriculum that emphasized critical thinking and cultural relevance, integrating local traditions into my lessons to create a meaningful learning experience. My teaching plan, tailored to my major, featured interactive activities and multimedia presentations, fostering student engagement through group work and discussions. Time management was essential, as I carefully structured each lesson to balance instruction and activities, while classroom management strategies, including clear expectations and positive reinforcement, helped maintain a respectful environment.
I encountered challenges like varying student engagement and language proficiencies, but by adapting my teaching style and seeking feedback from local educators, I was able to enhance my approach. Overall, this experience deepened my appreciation for diverse educational contexts and highlighted the importance of community collaboration in fostering a supportive learning environment.
Where the Love Letter will End but the Memories will Remain
As I reflect on my educational journey in Vietnam, my heart is filled with gratitude for the beautiful experiences I had in this incredible country. From the moment I arrived, I was enchanted by the vibrant culture, the warm-hearted people, and the delicious cuisine. Whether it was savoring a bowl of pho, enjoying banh mi from a bustling street vendor, or sharing laughter with my students over a shared meal, the flavors and warmth of Vietnam will forever stay with me.
One of the highlights of my time in Vietnam was the unwavering support I received from the political science department. The faculty and fellow students created a nurturing environment that fostered growth and collaboration. Their encouragement and guidance made my teaching experience not only manageable but truly enjoyable, and I felt a sense of belonging that I will always cherish.
Even now that I am back in the Philippines, Vietnam remains etched in my heart. The lessons I learned, the friendships I formed, and the cultural exchanges I experienced have shaped my perspective as an educator and a global citizen. I carry the spirit of Vietnam with me, inspired to share its beauty and the invaluable lessons from my time there with my students.
